In January of 1989, Elizabeth Mate-Bias started Upright Iron Works in Hammond, IN. As a woman owned company for over 30 years, Upright Iron Works has provided metal fabrication to the Northwest Indiana and Northern Illinois area.

Upright Iron is a proud member of NOMMA. In 2016, Upright received a bronze award in the field of non-ferrous, non-forged interior railings.

We pride ourselves on our honesty and integrity and we firmly believe that you'll see the difference when you choose our company. We've also been family-owned and operated from the start. We may not be related, but you’ll feel like we’re family.

Upright Iron Works Is a miscellaneous metals shop specializing in steel stairs and railings for the commercial industry. We strive to provide valuable, high quality products for our customers; as well as provide rewarding, stable jobs for all of our

employees to support their families.

We work with the noblest of materials such as bronze, brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and iron; and do miscellaneous metal work for commercial buildings, schools, public buildings, new construction,

and many other types of projects.

Upright Iron is a company backed by over 90 years of experience in fabrication, leadership, and problem solving. We fabricate, deliver, and install any miscellaneous metal items. We specialize in the manufacturing of stairs, rails, ladders, doors, gates and grilles as well as artistic pieces. Our main focus is on large scale commercial projects but we encourage those who have small and intricate projects to send us your ideas.
